In his capacity as Chairperson, Ambassador H.E Mr Moses Mose successfully chaired the first virtual meeting of the Organization of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Sub-Committee on Political, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs on 18 September 2020.
Representing the Pacific region, Ambassador Mose assumes the role as Chair of the PSHCA Subcommittee from 1st February 2020 until 31st January 2021.
In his introductory remarks, He thanked the Pacific Region for the confidence vested in Solomon Islands to Chair and coordinate the work of the subcommittee.
He also congratulated Dr. Norbert Richard Ibrahim on his appointment as the new Assistant Secretary General to the Department of Political Affairs and Human Development.
Referring to the annual work programme of the subcommittee, He noted that the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions has delayed the implementation of it’s activities and called on Members of the subcommittee with the support of the Secretariat, to use the remaining time left before the end of the year to prioritise and implement those activities that are attainable. There are nine strategic priorities listed in the annual work programme of the subcommittee.
Ambassador Mose is assisted in his role as Chair of the subcommittee by two Vice-Chairpersons: Ambassador HE Mrs Shiela Montieth of Jamaica, and Ambassador, HE Mrs Berta Celestino Cossa of Mozambique.
The Sub-Committee on Political, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs is one of six technical subcommittees of the OACPS, whose mandates is to review political, social, humanitarian, and cultural issues in member states and make recommendations to the Committee of Ambassadors.
