Solomon Islands – EU Partnership Dialogue

Brussels, February 4, 2025 – The EU and Solomon Islands held their first Partnership Dialogue under the Samoa Agreement, reaffirming commitments to trade, climate action, and regional stability.

Solomon Islands’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Peter Shanel Agovaka, met with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, Deputy Managing Director “Asia and Pacific Department” at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Paola Pampaloni, and Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela in Brussels.

The discussions reviewed key developments since their last high-level meeting in 2022 and aligned their policy priorities.

The EU pledged support for Solomon Islands’ trade under the interim Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and development projects. Both sides also addressed climate resilience, ocean governance, and efforts to combat illegal fishing.

Solomon Islands updated the EU on preparations for the Honiara Summit 2025 on marine conservation and its upcoming role as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF). The EU confirmed its participation in the PIF Leaders’ Meeting in Honiara (September 2025), reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Pacific region.
