Meeting with Ambassador Ignacio Ybáñez, EU Special Envoy for SIDS

The European External Action Service (EEAS) Ambassador-at-Large and Special Envoy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), HE  Ignacio Ybáñez, paid a courtesy visit to 4-the Solomon Islands Embassy in Brussels.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange views on key issues affecting the OACPS SIDS Forum and to explore potential areas of collaboration in the months ahead. H.E. Ybáñez briefed Ambassador Mose on the forthcoming Joint EU–OACPS Statement to be released in commemoration of United Nations Day on 24 October. He also shared updates on preparations for the upcoming COP30 to be held in Belém, Brazil, and underscored the importance of strengthening engagement between the OACPS SIDS Forum and the European Union.

Ambassador Mose expressed his appreciation to the Special Envoy for his visit and reaffirmed the OACPS SIDS Forum’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by its member states. He emphasized the critical importance of joint initiatives and partnership in advancing shared priorities, particularly in relation to climate change and sustainable development.

Ambassador Mose further thanked H.E. Ybáñez for his continued dedication and advocacy in championing the concerns of Small Island Developing States within the European Union and on the global stage.
