The discussions with the Ambassador of Maldives focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade, tourism, climate change and its adverse impacts on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), capacity building for environmental protection and biodiversity, as well as engagements with the European Union (EU).
During the meeting, the Ambassador of the Maldives sought the support of Solomon Islands for her country’s candidature to the UN Human Rights Council (2028–2030) and the Committee on the Rights of the Child (2027–2031). She also confirmed the Maldives’ support for Solomon Islands’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2031–2032 term.
